Shrewsbury Livestock Market is to hold a sale of traditional, native and rare breeds of sheep, cattle and pigs on Saturday July 3.
The new event, organised by Halls Auctioneers, will also be the venue for the National Show and Sale (West) of Shropshire sheep. This will be the first time that an official Shropshire breed sale has been held in the county since 1950
The sale is open to all traditional and native breeds, and Sue Lawrence of the RBST Shropshire believes there is a need for such an event in the region: “Given the ever-increasing cost of transport and distance to any other sale, I’m sure many local breeders will welcome this opportunity to sell their stock closer to home. The sale is also taking place earlier in the year than many other events, which may be useful to some breeders. There has been a promising reaction to news of the event amongst RBST members, and we hope it will be well supported.”
The new show and sale at Shrewsbury will be held at Halls’ new auction centre which opened in March 2006. This is easily accessible on the outskirts of the town and is conveniently situated next to a Travel Lodge, for breeders who need to stay overnight. Stock may be delivered to the market at any time on Friday July 2.
Schedules will be available from Halls in mid to late April. For more information, contact John Rossiter, of Halls on 01743 462620 or visit www.hallsestateagents.co.uk.
