Latest on Bluetongue
A Defra announcement is expected at the end of this week (20th June) on the continuation of the roll out of Bluetongue vaccination.
The vaccine programme received a setback with a batch due to be released on the 2nd June, still undergoing testing. An additional batch is currently going through the quality control tests and its availablity should be announced within the next few days.
Defra Secretary of State Hilary Benn has also agreed to order a further eight million doses of Bluetongue vaccine for England which is expected to be delivered through the summer and should be completed by September.
In a joint statement the Joint Campaign Against Bluetongue said "This is excellent news as it means we will now have sufficient vaccine to cover the whole of England. This will allow farmers to protect their own livestock against the devastating bluetongue disease."
